These TikTok dancers in Bohol show moves amid high tide flooding
Not even a flood can stop a group of dancers in Bohol from showing their Tiktok moves!
According to Oscar Oida’s report on "24 Oras," Thursday, the group called "Team Kabuhe" went to Batasan Island to celebrate a festival when the water rose due to high tide.
They were then struck by inspiration to perform and show off their skills under the unique circumstances.
"The place was beautiful and it was our first time to visit when the water reached the streets so we decided to do a TikTok video," said Ryan Jaum.
Although their dance looks enjoyable to watch, there is a serious reason why Batasan Island got submerged under water.
According to Renato Solidum Jr., the director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the island became prone to flooding after the magnitude 7.2 earthquake that hit Bohol in October 2013.
"The islands which are off-shore of Bohol's north side sank close to one meter so whenever there's high tide, it will flood," he said in a mix of English and Filipino.
He added that because of climate change, higher floods may occur in the future.
"It will be more dangerous if the waves are strong so it will be hard for the people," he said.
Meanwhile, Team Kabuhe explained why they were not wearing face masks in the video.
"The island is secluded with no cases. We had swab tests so we're confident to visit there," said Ken Villafuerte.
The Municipal Health Office confirmed it but also reminded everyone that minimum health and safety protocols should still be followed.
