Fil-Am singers Olivia Rodrigo, H.E.R. share message for Pinoy fans
Filipino-American singers Olivia Rodrigo and H.E.R. have shared their messages for their Filipino fans.
Olivia Rodrigo, the 18-year-old breakout star who rose to the top of music charts with her song “Drivers License,” said she hoped to visit the Philippines, her father’s birthplace, someday.
“I really wanna go visit one day. I’m really hoping I could come to the Philippines sooner rather than later. I hear it’s amazing and I can’t wait to meet all of the Filipino fans,” she said.
Asked if she knew any Filipino celebrity, she said she was flattered for being compared to Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray.
“People are saying that I sort of look like her which is insane because she is really the most beautiful person I have ever seen so every time people say that I’m like, oh really, that’s crazy!”
“Drivers License,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped global charts of streaming platforms, was the first song to hit one billion streams in 2021.
Olivia’s new single “Déjà Vu” is out now and her new album will be released this month.
Oscar and Grammy winner H.E.R., meanwhile, invited her Filipino fans to check out her new song “Hold Us Together” with Christian singer Tauren Wells.
“Kumusta my Filipinos? Kumusta mga Kapuso?” said the 23-year-old artist. “Ingat, salamat po.”
Last month, H.E.R. took home the Academy Award for Best Original Song for “I Fight For You,” the song featured in the movie “Judas and the Black Messiah.”
In March, she won Song of the Year for “I Can’t Breathe” and Best R&B song for “Better Than I Imagined” at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards.
In 2019, she took home the Grammys Best R&B Album for “H.E.R.” and Best R&B Performance for “Best Part.” – RC, GMA News
