Here are 7 European films accessible for free online until June
Seven multi-awarded European films will be accessible for free online for one whole month!
As part of the Viva Europa Cultural Festival 2021, Filipino viewers can watch the never before screened films from May 5 to June 5. The films will be available 24/7 on the Festival Scope website.
According to a release, the films have been "carefully curated to provide a unique cinematic experience to suit the discriminating taste of the Filipino audiences."
The initiative is brought by the European Union Delegation to the Philippines to "bring viewers together" and "gather producers from across the European continent."
1. "Acasa My Home" by Radu Ciorniciuc (2020)
The story follows nine children and their parents who lived in the wilderness of the Bucharest Delta in perfect harmony with nature for 20 years.
Eventually, they were chased away and forced to adapt to the big city life full of the hustle and bustle.
"Acasa My Home" won the Special Jury Award for Cinematography at the Sundance Film Festival and the Human Rights Award at the Sarajevo Film Festival.
2. "Aurora" by Miia Tervo (2019)
Aurora is running away from love. Darian is running away from death. When the two meet, can they stop each from running away?
"Aurora" won Best Film and Best Direction at the Jussi Awards. Mimosa Willamo, who played the lead role, meanwhile, bagged the Best Actress award.
The film was also named the Best International Feature Film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
3. "Fire Will Come" (O Que Arde) by Oliver Laxe (2019)
Amador Coro gets out of prison for provoking a fire and lives happily and peacefully with his mother and three cows until a fire devastates the region.
"Fire Will Come" won the Jury Prize - Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival 2019.
4. "Her Job" (I Doulia Tis) by Nikos Labôt (2018)
Panayiota is trapped within a domestic environment that prevents her from achieving independence.
One day, an opportunity for employment as a cleaner comes but little did she know that this newly-gained autonomy stands to be prematurely pruned by a series of layoffs at work.
"Her Job" was the Official Selection at the Toronto International Film Festival 2018.
Marisha Triantafyllidou, the lead actress, won Best Actress at the Thessaloniki Film Festival 2018.
5. "Our Struggles" (Nos Batailles) by Guillaume Senez (2018)
Olivier is determined to fight the injustices at work until his wife Laura decides to leave their family behind. He then struggles to find balance between his career and loved ones.
"Ou Struggles" was one of the films selected to be shown at the Special Screenings Section at the Cannes 2018 Critics' Week.
6. "Perfumes" (Les Parfums) by Gregory Magne (2019)
Anne Walberg, a master in perfumes, showcases her talent in creating fragrances to a number of companies. She is a diva who is selfish and temperamental.
Her new driver, Guillaume, dares to be the only one brave enough to face her, but she doesn't fire him.
7. "The Audition" (Das Vorspiel) by Ina Weisse (2019)
Anna, a violin teacher, goes against her colleagues who finds the admission of a young boy into a music school a mistake. Based on what she sees, he has great talent.
She dedicates her time and effort to the new student, making her own son jealous and her marriage into shambles. Eventually, she gets into an affair with a colleague and becomes too obsessed with work until an accident occurs.
"The Audition" had its world premiere in the Discovery section at the 44th Toronto International Film Festival.
It was also selected in competition at the San Sebastian International Film Festival 2019.
