Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Drivers License’ becomes 1st song to hit 1 billion streams in 2021
Filipino-American singer Olivia Rodrigo isn’t done breaking jaw-dropping records!
According to a Billboard report on Thursday, MRC Data show that the 17-year old’s hit debut single “Drivers License” has become the first song to reach one billion global streams in 2021.
The song, which was released Jan. 8, hit its 1 billion-stream mark on March 25. That week alone, “Drivers License” garnered 54.42 million global on-demand audio and video streams.
Spending eight weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 chart, “Drivers License” now has a cumulative total of 1.033 billion streams, followed by BTS’s “Dynamite,” which so far has 685.98 million streams this year.
Before this feat, the “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” actress also made headlines after “Drivers License” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In the 63-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, less than 50 other songs had debuted at No. 1, which puts Olivia and “Drivers License” along the ranks of Michael Jackson’s “You Are Not Alone,” Whitney Houston’s “Exhale (Shoop Shoop),” Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On,” Taylor Swift’s “Cardigan,” and Ariana Grande’s “Positions."
Last Thursday, Olivia released another single “Déjà Vu.” She is set to drop her debut album this May 21. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
