Olivia Rodrigo releases new single ‘Deja Vu,’ to drop debut album in May
This half-Pinay is back with yet another heartbreaking song!
Filipino-American singer Olivia Rodrigo, best known for her record-breaking track “Drivers License,” released her new single “Déjà Vu” on Thursday.
In the song’s music video, Olivia can be seen watching a girl who resembles her do the things she once did. With a melodic tune and a been-there-done-that atmosphere, she sings to the person who left and asks if he ever gets déjà vu when he does the things he did with her.
“Déjà Vu” almost follows the same heartbreak felt on “Drivers License,” with both songs seen as a strong breakup anthem for anyone who’s been wondering about their exes.
The 17-year-old singer is also set to release her debut album on May 21 according to a Variety report.
The “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” actress made headlines after “Drivers License” topped global charts of streaming platforms and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In the 63-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, less than 50 other songs had debuted at No. 1, which puts Olivia and “Drivers License” along the ranks of Michael Jackson’s “You Are Not Alone,” Whitney Houston’s “Exhale (Shoop Shoop),” Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On,” Taylor Swift’s “Cardigan,” Ariana Grande’s “Positions” and BTS’s “Dynamite.”
As of writing, “Déjà Vu” has more than 3.4 million views just 12 hours since its premiere. – RC, GMA News
