You can now 'stand on Mars' with NASA's newest immersive IG filter

Who said you had to travel millions of kilometers to be on Mars?

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory announced the launch of its newest immersive Instagram filter that lets you feel as if you're standing on the Red Planet.

In partnership with National Geographic, NASA created a filter that allows you to see a realistic and immersive view of Mars, explore Mars rover Perseverance's landing site on the Jezero Crater, read cool trivia, and even take a selfie with Perseverance.

"If you haven't heard, NASA's newest rover, Perseverance, just landed on Mars last week," a NASA astronaut and planetary geologist said. "We teamed up with National Geographic sharing our real science and data to help them create this virtual effect for you to become our Mars rover."

"You're getting one of the first immersive looks at the real panorama of Jezero Crater taken by Perseverance when she landed so technically you're standing on Mars," she added.

Launched on July 30, 2020, Perseverance made its historic Mars landing on Thursday.

With its triumphant feat, the robotic vehicle is set to search for traces of ancient microbial life on Mars. —Kaela Malig/MGP, GMA News
