Netflix reportedly turns Katara into the older sibling in 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' adaptation
It seems as though there will be big changes in some of the main characters in Netflix's series adaptation of "Avatar: The Last Airbender" — and people aren't happy.
According to a report on The Illuminerdi, producers have turned the character of Katara into the older sibling instead of Sokka. They will now supposedly be 16 and 14 years of age, respectively.
Aang remains to be 12 years old.
In the original animated series on Nickelodeon, Sokka is 15 while Katara is 14.
The reported switch hints at changes in the dynamics between the trio, leaving fans to mull over the possibilities.
"Katara" trended on Twitter following the news, which came with the report that Netflix has hired a new showrunner — Albert Kim, who had worked on shows like "Leverage" and "Sleepy Hollow."
In August last year, the original creators of "Avatar: The Last Airbender," Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, quit the new adaptation for Netflix.
"What I can be certain about is that whatever version ends up on-screen, it will not be what Bryan and I had envisioned or intended to make," DiMartino said.
"Avatar: The Last Airbender" was a popular animated series that aired on Nickelodeon from 2005 to 2008. The whole show is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
