Japanese viewers react to ‘Voltes V: Legacy’ trailer, cast

Since GMA Network revealed the trailers and cast for “Voltes V: Legacy,” the series has been gaining the interest of viewers in many parts of the world.

It’s no surprise, therefore, that many viewers from Japan, where the iconic animated series originated, are also excited to watch the live action adaptation, as seen through their reactions online.

The first “Voltes V: Legacy” trailer released by GMA last year has reached around 3 million combined views on both Facebook and YouTube.

The second one, released last month, has more than a million views on YouTube.

One commenter praised a “Voltes V: Legacy” trailer posted on Twitter, saying they were Japanese and watched the series as a kid.

“This is a great work! I would like you to broadcast this in Japan as well,” they said.

“The quality was better than expected,” said another comment in Japanese. “While maintaining the original design and music, the title logo is shown for a moment, giving the impression that the original is important. Great.”

Many enthusiasts on Twitter also expressed in Japanese their anticipation for the show.

One user shared fan-made photos comparing the cast to their original anime characters.

The comments on the posts said they “liked what they’ve seen on the trailer” and hoped that the series would be subtitled and released in Japan.

Another one said “many Japanese Voltes fans have praised the new trailers that have been released so far, raising expectations.”

“As a Japanese in the country that gave birth to Voltes,” they added, “I am proud of Voltes, [which] is loved in the Philippines and is a bridge of friendship between the two countries!”

One Twitter user said they felt “great respect and love” and that the trailer was “perfect as a modern version of Voltes V!”

Meanwhile, a Japanese YouTuber named Ryu shared his reaction videos to the “Voltes V: Legacy” trailer.

“Wow, looks so realistic,” he said while watching the second trailer. “This looks so good … I’m amazed right now.”

Ryu said he had seen the original version of the series and he’s excited to watch the live action adaptation.

“I just heard that it’s gonna be back overseas in the Philippines and it’s gonna be on GMA,” he said. “I’m really curious to see the official version of it.”

Mitsuko Horie, the singer of the “Voltes V” theme, had also seen the trailer and said she was glad that the series was still loved in the Philippines.

“Voltes V” is a popular Japanese anime television series that premiered in June 1977.

In the Philippines, it aired on GMA-7 in May 1978 until it was banned from broadcast in April 1979 by the dictator Ferdinand Marcos. Fans reportedly never got to see the finale.

Last year, GMA announced that it had acquired the rights to produce the live action series through Telesuccess Productions, the Philippine licensor of Toei Animation, the company behind the original “Chodenji Machine Voltes V” anime series.

The network recently confirmed the seven actors who will play the lead roles on “Voltes V: Legacy”—Miguel Tanfelix, Ysabel Ortega, Radson Flores, Matt Lozano, Raphael Landicho, Martin del Rosario, and Liezel Lopez.

The series is directed by Mark Reyes, whose previous works include “TGIS,” “Encantadia,” and “Mulawin: The Movie.”
