Bretman Rock cooks igado, spaghetti in 1st episode of reality show

Bretman Rock put his cooking skills to the test to make his Filipino mother proud in his new reality show “MTV Following: Bretman Rock.”

In the first episode that aired on Tuesday in the Philippines, Bretman and sister Princess Mae arranged a beach dinner.

Challenged to make Filipino spaghetti and igado, Bretman said he wanted to make his mother happy.

“My mom is the best cook in the world. I cannot eat other Filipino food that is not my mom’s,” he said.

“If I have to cook my mom’s food, I have to do it my mom’s way,” he added.

Although nervous and panicking, he succeeded in making the two dishes with the help of his cousin Keiffer.

Mercedita, Bretman’s mother, said his spaghetti was “same with the [one] I cook.” She gave it a score of 100.

The igado, meanwhile, scored 30 percent and was described by Mercedita as “not good.”

The YouTube sensation shared that his mother inspired him to make efforts for his dreams.

“Growing up, my mom literally would send money to my dad in the Philippines and send money to her cousins and so I’ve always had that mentality—anything that you need, you have to work (hard) for,” he said.

He said everything he did now was for his family, especially his mother.

“I’ve always just wanted to work for my family and everything that I do today is for my family,” he stated. “She worked so hard for us and now we work hard for her.”

During dinner, Mercedita became emotional reminiscing the efforts she did for her children as a single mother. She then recognized that the life she had now was because of those hard work.

“I progressed that’s why God gave me a good life because I suffered and endured for my kids,” she said.

As of writing, the video is trending at the 11th spot on YouTube. It’s also trending on Twitter with more than 3,000 tweets.

According to some viewers, the episode showed how connected Bretman is with his Filipino roots and they just can’t wait to see more of it.
