Chito Miranda reflects on 2020, from losing source of income to being thankful for savings
Almost everyone didn’t survive the wild rollercoaster ride that was 2020.
Even Parokya Ni Edgar frontman Chito Miranda shared that he suffered many setbacks throughout the year amid the pandemic.
“Aminado ako na sobrang hassle ng year na ’to,” the singer wrote in an Instagram post on Friday.
In December 2019, he said he had just moved his restaurant Kimchi to a mall in Tagaytay.
“After a month, pumutok ’yung Taal. Nagsara ’yung Kimchi kasabay ng Neri’s Not So Secret Garden dito sa Alfonso,” he said.
“Nakapagbukas kami ulit nung Feb pero bigla namang nag-lockdown noong March, at dahil doon, nagsara kami ulit, but this time nadamay na din ’yung 3 other restaurants that I partly own.”
As if things couldn’t get any worse, Chito said that because of the pandemic, his gigs stopped as well.
“Our gigs, and those restaurants were my primary sources of income ... tapos biglang nawala lahat, sabay sabay,” he said.
Things started to get better, however, when online gigs became a thing and they were able to reopen Kimchi.
“Mabuti na lang din may iba akong investments at madami akong nagawang kanta. The rent and the royalties were enough to help us get through,” Chito said.
“I’m so glad, and admittedly proud na mas pinili ko mag-ipon at mag-invest at mamuhay ng simple, instead na maging maluho,” he added.
“Doon pa lang thankful na ’ko but what I always really pray for is for our family to be safe and healthy, and for me to have more time for them. Here I am now, safe and sound with my healthy family, enjoying my long break after working nonstop for more than 25 years.”
Apart from expressing his gratitude for his family’s health, he also said that he was thankful for all the opportunities that came to his wife Neri, who now has multiple successful online businesses and just recently finished an entrepreneurship course at Harvard Business School.
“Sabi nga nila, God works in mysterious ways, that everything happens for a reason, and that everything is a blessing in disguise,” he said.
“2020 sucked pero nagpapasalamat pa rin ako dahil kasama at mas natututukan ko ang pamilya ko, mas na-appreciate ko ’yung mga things which were taken for granted, at na-realize ko kung ano talaga ang importante sa buhay.”
Last month, Chito and his band mates were shocked to find themselves among the Top 5 OPM artists on Spotify Philippines for 2020 despite making their debut in 1996 and releasing their latest album in 2016. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
