Love Alarm's Song Kang is a reclusive monster slayer in 'Sweet Home'

If you fell in love with Song Kang's charms in "Love Alarm," be prepared to be amazed by his fighting scenes in the Korean action-thriller series "Sweet Home."

During the cast's recent roundtable interview, Song Kang described his character
Hyun-su as a "reclusive loner" who goes on to fight monsters who suddenly terrorize their lives.

"The reclusive and loner aspect of him is not truly the real aspect of him but the righteous and brave is actually who he really is," Song Kang said.

Sharing that he lived and breathed as his character Hyun-su for over eight months — to the point of imitating how Hyun-su would walk down the street — the South Korean actor said, "I think the fans would be able to see the righteous side of the character although there is also a deep and dark side to him as well...The values on life and death and desires of humans, it will provide the audiences to look back on themselves in regards to this."

While filming, Song Kang also shared how it was difficult to fight monsters that weren't really there in real life.

"It's the fight scene between me and the track monster. I take my spear to hurt him and it would just continue and of course I can't see the monster there, so I had to do a lot of the action on my own. I would say that would be the most difficult," Song Kang said.

"Sweet Home" is 10-episode VFX/SFX-heavy series based on a popular webtoon of the same name. It revolves around Hyun-su who moves into an old apartment complex called Green Home after his family died.

Before he could be consumed with hopelessness, monsters started taking over the world. Worse, humans were also turning into monsters based on their inner desires.

Directed by "Descendants of the Sun" and "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God" director Lee Eung-bok, the series will also feature Lee Jin-uk, Lee Si-young, Lee Do-hyun, Kim Nam-hee, Ko Min-si, Park Kyu-young and Go Youn-jung.

"Sweet Home" is now streaming on Netflix.
