Chito Miranda surprised Parokya ni Edgar is among top OPM artists on Spotify for 2020

Parokya ni Edgar once again proved its staying power after it landed among the Top 5 OPM artists on Spotify Philippines for 2020.

The band made its debut in 1996 and last released an album in 2016, but it looks like Filipinos still include their songs as a regular part of their playlists.

Frontman Chito Miranda himself is surprised that Parokya still ranks among new acts like Ben&Ben, Moira dela Torre, Matthaios, and December Avenue.

"Wow. Sorry pero sobrang proud lang talaga ako," he wrote on Instagram. "Di po talaga ako makapaniwala na kasama pa rin 'yung banda namin sa mga listahan na 'to."

Aside from landing at no. 5 on the OPM list, Parokya is also no. 8 among musical groups, which also includes international acts such as K-pop sensations BTS and Blackpink.

"Grabe diba?! Salamat po talaga sa lahat ng patuloy na tumatangkilik sa Parokya ni Edgar!" Chito said.

The band has almost 1.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify. "Your Song" is their most streamed track with over 53 million streams.

Earlier this year, Parokya ni Edgar released a single titled "Smile," a birthday song for Chito's wife, Neri Naig. —MGP, GMA News
