Teachers in Cagayan call for help after flood ravages school
A group of teachers in Alcala, Cagayan, are calling for help after their school was ravaged by flood brought by Typhoon Ulysses.
According to Jovita Floria, principal at Baybayog Elementary School, the typhoon damaged most of the equipment they needed to continue their students’ distance learning, including laptops, books, modules and photocopying machines.
“Nananawagan po ako sa mga may mga mabubuting kalooban na kung maari ay bigyan niyo kami ng mga magagaamit naming mga materials para sa pagpi-print ng mga modules ng mga bata,” Floria said.
Luckily, teachers were able to save some materials by moving them to the second floor before Ulysses swept across Luzon this month.
The flood, however, ravaged several classrooms and left a thick layer of mud in the area where the school is located.
Despite facing flood problems of their own at home, the group of teachers at Baybayog decided to try their best to continue making modules for their students.
The teachers also worked together to help in their school’s cleanup.
Inspired by their hard work and dedication to education, “Unang Hirit” provided the teachers with new TVs, tablets and portable Wi-Fi devices as part of the show’s 21st anniversary celebration. – Margaret Claire Layug/RC, GMA News
