Emma Corrin talks about Princess Diana's roller skating scene in 'The Crown'
Fans of beloved Netflix series “The Crown” have long been excited about Season 4, which introduces Princess Diana into the royal family.
When the trailer dropped two weeks ago, one scene featuring the Princess of Wales attracted attention online: Lady Diana Spencer roller skating at the Buckingham Palace.
In a roundtable interview with international media on Thursday, actress Emma Corrin shed some light on the curious image that got “The Crown” fans talking.
“I think her roller skating with those trousers on, with her music through the palace, basically just captures that she was bored and so she's just doing what she does, but in this very different environment,” she said.
Emma said Director Benjamin Caron wanted to communicate Diana’s “sense of youth” within the “austere institution” that is the British monarchy.
The scene is set shortly after Diana’s engagement to Prince Charles, who goes on an international tour and leaves her alone as she learns the ropes of royal life.
“She doesn't really know what's going on, but expected that to be warmth and people to be around her but she’s sort of left to her own devices,” Emma said about her character.
Diana is undergoing the difficult transition from teenager to Princess of Wales in the episode, but Emma said she enjoyed having a go on the roller skates.
“I'm so bad at rotating so it was stressful, I've got to say. But yeah, it was a lot of fun,” she said.
