How Japanese creators feel about anime's increasing popularity around the world

Anime has seen a steadily increase in popularity around the world, according to Netflix.

The streaming giant recently reported a 50 percent annual viewership increase in the anime category. In the past year, over 100 million households around the world chose to watch at least one anime title on Netflix, it said.

Shuichiro Tanaka, a producer from David Production ("Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Series"), expressed happiness in this development.

He shared that in 1990, he worked for the company Toys "R" Us, and noticed that outside of Japan, toys of local characters were never on the shelves.

Now, through Netflix, the content they create are distributed to 190 countries across the globe.

"We feel really a close affinity to the world outside of Japan," he said. "The world has now come in Japan."

Manga author Mari Yamazaki ("Thermae Romae") said that when Netflix approached her to help release her work all over the world, it was beyond her imagination.

"I've never imagined that my work would be watched by so many people around the world simultaneously," she said.

"It's really nice that people will get the chance to see my work instead f me having to explain what it is," she added.

To keep up with the demand for more anime content, Netflix has vowed to increase its offerings.

Earlier this week, it unveiled its exciting anime lineup for next year—JCB, GMA News
