Hit K-drama series 'It's Okay To Not Be Okay' is based on its writer's love story
If you're a fan of the hitKorean drama series "It's Okay To Not Be Okay," here's a fun fact.
A report on annyeongoppa.com, which cited an original naver.com story, said the K-drama series writer Jo Yong revealed that the background of "It's Okay To Not Be Okay" is based on her own love story.
"This drama started with my love story with a man who had a personality disorder," she said. "It’s a drama reflecting my narrow-minded self who failed to acknowledge and embrace, and chose to give up just to escape from prejudice.”
Jo Yong said through the character [Moon] Kang Tae played by Kim Soo Hyun, she "wanted to show him the recognition and engagement that I couldn’t do at that time, and I wanted to apologize."
Jo Yong said the [Moon] Kang Tae is the opposite of herself in real life.
The writer added that through the series, she wanted to tell the person "somehow that you haven’t done anything wrong. So please be happy wherever you are. While writing this drama, I received the most healing treatment than anyone else, so I was so happy.”
Furthermore, she addressed the message she wanted to relay to the viewers of the drama, “I’ve read that a person who has no emotions feels lonely. It is a human instinct to find warmth to fill the loneliness they’ve felt.”
“I wanted to be comforted, healed, and grow up to be an adult. So, I hope that you would not turn away, but rather hold on to those hands that are struggling to find warmth from other people.”
“I wanted to convey that message through the appearance of the main characters in the drama who are healed and growing through each other’s warmth,” she revealed.
Jo Yong continued and talked about the message and healing he wanted the viewers to take away from the series.

The 16-episode series is a psychological romantic drama that follows the story of a health care worker at a psychiatric ward named Moon Kang-tae (Kim Soo-hyun) and a children’s book author named Go Moon-young (Seo Ye-ji) with an antisocial personality disorder.
Moon Kang Tae who is blessed with looks, brains and attitude has also become the guardian of his brother Sang Tae (Oh Jung Se) who is eight years older than him and is on the autism spectrum.
