Atom Araullo recounts experience as a young reporter on ‘5 and Up’
Atom Araullo recently recalled his experience as a young reporter on “5 and Up.”
In a Facebook post on Saturday, Atom shared a YouTube video from Probe Productions showing him in an episode that featured a boys’ church choir in Bukidnon.
“Making documentaries since 199x. Learned from the best in 5 and Up and Probe, whom I still call ates and kuyas to this day because old habits die hard,” the journalist said on his caption.
In the video, Atom said the episode was memorable to him. “Kaya siya memorable para sa akin, isa siya sa mga early examples of being immersed in a story.”
Apart from learning about the lives and the struggles of the members of the choir, he also got to wear their costumes and join them during rehearsals.
“5 and Up” is an informative show that aired from 1992-2002 hosted by then teen correspondents Atom Araullo, Chynna Ortaleza, Maxene Magalona, and brothers Rodjun and Rayver Cruz, among other young hosts.
According to Atom, the show inspired him to pursue journalism and make documentaries.
“The producers became our friends,” he said. “We looked up to them … that’s the reason why I suppose I ended up in the same career, because I believed in what they were doing and I felt like I wanted to become like them.” – RC, GMA News
