MYMP founder Chin Alcantara is now a delivery boy for his food business
Chin Alcantara, the founder and guitarist of OPM band MYMP, is now a delivery rider for his own food business amid the community quarantine.
According to Oscar Oida's report on "24 Oras," the musician and his wife are both milk tea lovers so they decided to sell the beloved drink along with other Filipino favorites.
With his gigs cancelled due to the pandemic, Chin put his guitar down for the meantime and instead hopped on a motorcycle to handle deliveries.
"Ginawa namin, 'Sige, bumili tayo ng motor kahit na 'yung secondhand lang muna. E kailangan nating kumuha ng rider.' Nag-presenta na lang ako, sabi ko sa misis ko, 'Ako na muna.'"
Chin admitted that his pride took a hit at first, but his desire to provide for his family won over.
Now, he happily delivers orders of tofu sisig, beef broccoli, inihaw na pusit, barbecue, buttered chicken, and beef tapa.
He said his outlook changed when one of their customers recognized him.
"Naka-mask ako e tsaka may helmet pa ko ah, nakakatawa. Tinanong niya, 'Kuya pamilyar kayo... kayo ba 'yung sa MYMP? Kayo ba si Chin?" he said. "Sabi ko ako nga, so tuwang-tuwa siya so nagpa-picture, ayun 'yung nag-viral na photo."
Chin said he was surprised that the overall reaction to his new sideline was mostly positive, so he got inspired to continue what he is doing.
"Naunawan ko, naramdaman ko firsthand 'yung hirap pala din ng pagiging rider," he said. —MGP, GMA News
