Girl group XOXO promotes body positivity with debut single
All-girls group XOXO sings about body positivity with its self-titled debut single!
Formed by women with different body shapes, skin color and features, the group wants to promote that their fellow ladies don't have to force themselves to fit into "the ideal standard" of beauty to succeed in life.
The four-member group, composed of previous "The Clash" contenders Dani Ozaraga, Lyra Micolob, Muriel Lomadilla, and Mel Caluag, said that they take pride in how all of them looked different from one another.
"Kahit hindi kami standard na payat, na sexy na standard na maganda, kahit ganito po kami alam namin sa sarili namin na maganda at sexy kami," Muriel told GMA News Online on Tuesday.
She said that one part of the song that struck her spoke of how no one can please everyone and that we should just "keep on flying."
The singer also said that their fans would reach out to them about feeling better in their own skin because of them.
"Sabi nila, 'Ate, inspiration namin kayo kasi dati nahihiya ako kasi mataba ako.' Sinasabi namin sa nagme-message na hindi mo naman kailangang mag-fit doon sa norm, na ito lang ang maganda," she said. "As long as may pangarap ka, wala kaming inaapakan na tao at mabait ka sa tao then why not?"
"Pagtalent kasi, talent talaga. It's not about the size, the skin color, it's not about the looks. Hindi 'yun hadlang," Lyra added.
The group's single, also called "XOXO," is expected to be an upbeat song and an ode to women empowerment. It was recorded the day before the enhanced community quarantine was implemented.
XOXO is set to release their new single on September 10 on Apple Music, Spotify, Youtube Music and other digital stores worldwide.
