Kundiman singer becomes pastry chef amid community quarantine
A kundiman singer who lost her job has made a livelihood out of baking pastries amid the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Bernadette Reyes' report on "24 Oras," Hazel Corpuz worked in hotel in Bagac, Bataan, but the business closed down during the community quarantine.
She also owned a souvenir shop inside the hotel, but she had to let it go and find other ways to earn an income. And like many others have done, she tried her hand at baking.
"Kausap ko 'yung anak kong nagbebake, magka-video call kami. Tinuruan niya ako kung paano," said Hazel, who added that she had zero baking knowledge prior to starting.
She also did not have all the equipment and simply used a turbo broiler to make her creations, until her kids surprised her with an oven.
Hazel began with brownies, and then eventually added churros, banana bread, and crinkles. Now, she is earning P3,000 per week.
"Tiyaga lang po at saka i-love 'yung ginagawa mo," she said. —MGP, GMA News
