Emily in Paris: 5 things to be super excited about

"Emily in Paris" is the highly anticipated new show from Darren Star, creator of "Sex and the City," "Beverly Hills 90210," and "Melrose Place."

The name drop alone should get your attention and those TV references should already get you excited. But if they don't quite ring a bell, we have five more reasons for you to keep an eye out for this show, dropping on Netflix on October 2

1. The escape! We've been on lockdown since March and heaven knows how badly we need a change in scenery and in pace.

If we can't go on trips to escape just yet, might as well get it from a TV show. "Emily in Paris," as its name suggests, is set in France's scenic capital. Emily (Lily Collins) our heroine becomes an expat there and as such the romantic River Seine, the iconic Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysees, and more Parisian hotspots make a cameo. It might not be your dream trip to Paris, but this will have to do for now.

2. The fantasy! Becoming a Parisian is easily the most recognizable fantasy the show has on offer. And even if you say Paris ain't a dream for you, there's a myriad of others tucked in here, too: Moving to another city, perhaps? Or landing your dream job? Becoming an expat, the promised adventure of new romance, so it goes. At this point, seeing someone live that fantasy, even if it's just on a TV, is a balm to the tired soul.

3. The fashion! If you miss dressing up, or at least wearing heels, you've come to the right place. To the pambahay-clad people like ourselves, Emily's outfits already sound sensational.

Credit goes to a stellar wardrobe department headed by Florence Clamond of "Marie Antoinette" fame, with none other than Patricia Field of "Sex and the City" and "Devil Wears Prada" as a consultant.

4. The energy! The series is just 10 30-minute episodes long so you can just imagine the pacing (fast) and the storytelling (smart).

And then there are, of course, the characters: Emily Cooper is an ambitious 20-something marketing executive tasked to create social media strategies. She's ma-chika and maabilidad, and has quite the sense of humour and an impressive sense of self.

Balancing her brash American ways are her Parisian colleagues' relaxed, idyllic, and smoking ways.

5. The cast! While "Emily in Paris" features American actors like Broadway star Ashley Park and Kate Walsh of "Grey's Anatomy," its French cast is worth a double take. We mean the hot Lucas Bravo, the intriguing Camille Razat, the beautiful Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, and the charming Samuel Arnold.

A bonus: There is also the drama. Emily's leaving her life behind to take a chance on something new. And she's going about it alone. Imagine the struggle of having to fit in, with Parisians, who aren't exactly the warmest people.

While she is able to make new friends, they in turn, carry personal baggages, too, resulting in intoxicating adventures, surprising challenges, and invigorating triumphs.
