Why Grizzly, Panda and Ice Bear stack on top of each other in 'We Bare Bears'

Grizzly, Panda, and Ice Bear have literally had each other's backs throughout the entire four seasons of "We Bear Bears."

But have you ever wondered why they did the "bear stack," with Griz always on top, Panda in the middle and Ice Bear at the bottom?

According to the creator Daniel Chong, who based the show on a webcomic of his called "Three Bare Bears," the whole stacking concept started out as something random but he later realized that it may have had something to do with each of the bears' personalities.

"Seeing the stack, it gave me a sense of what their personalities should be," Daniel told reporters in a virtual roundtable interview.

"Because you know when you're adapting it (for TV), you're trying to figure out who are these characters, and what are these relationships, and how are they related or why do they stack, you know?" he added.

Fans of the show would know how Grizzly likes to assume the role of the older brother and, in the same way, Panda and Ice Bear essentially gave off that middle and youngest child vibe.

"I realized that 'Oh, maybe these are brothers. And, maybe, the reason the top bear is the top bear because he's the oldest, he's the leader, he's the one pointing, 'we're going that way, we're going that way, and the middle child is the middle brother who is always kind of in the middle and kind of is a little different. And then you have the bottom bear. He's like the youngest who like nobody really pays attention to and just kind of uses in a certain way. So, in a way, the stack kind of gave me an opportunity to redefine who their characters were," Daniel said.

Fortunately, the fact that it happened to be a grizzly on top with the panda in the middle and a polar bear in the bottom also made a lot of sense.

"When I pitched the show, I did say you know grizzlies are kind of, like, the king. It's like the strong bear that everyone is familiar with, so it made sense that that was the oldest brother," Daniel shared.

"Pandas, we know are very cute and cuddly so it made sense he was the bottom and you know polar bears are kind of like the biggest bears out there and they're strong so it kind of made sense that they were who they were," he said.

"Maybe it was just meant to be but, you know, it all kind of came together," he added.

Chong has confirmed that "We Bear Bears" is ending after four seasons and 140 hilarious episodes, but that there was a spin-off series in the works.

The cartoon, which is about three bear brothers trying their best to fit in with society, has been loved by fans from different age groups thanks to its relatable characters, unique storylines and light-hearted humor.

"We Bear Bears: The Movie," which concludes the series, is set to premiere in the Philippines in September. —JCB, GMA News
