Steve Dailisan loses job as pilot because of COVID-19

We all cheered for ex-GMA reporter Steve Dailisan when he left journalism to pursue his dream to become a pilot, and we all took pride in him when he finally reached that dream.

Today, let's sympathize with Steve. On Instagram, he shared that he lost his job as a pilot.

"In January of this year, I was released as First Officer after some grueling months of training. Only to realize it would be the shortest stint in my entire professional career. In a matter of 10 months, I lost it. COVID19 stole the very heart or my dream-flying," Steve wrote in a caption that accompanied an image of him in uniform, an aircraft of Cebu Pacific, with superimposed words that read, "Thank you Ceb!"

When the pandemic took a big blow in our lives I never thought that it would hit me hard. As a news person, I thought I've witnessed too many bad times. In January of this year, I was released as First Officer after some grueling months of training. Only to realize it would be the shortest stint in my entire professional career. In a matter of 10 months, I lost it. COVID19 stole the very heart or my dream-flying. It's a shortlived moment but I will always treasure the opportunity given by Cebu Pacific. I will be forever grateful to everyJUAN I've flown with. Ultimately, its a humbling experience. I will have to rest my golden wings for a while to chart a new destination elsewhere. It's a difficult time to be a source of inspiration but believe there will always be a BRIGHT NEW DAY. This is just a step back, not a setback. And to you who's reading this lengthy post, just keep going. If you lost something or someone during this crucial time, cry for a while. Mourn if you must. Let it all out. Have that one last cry and then, move on. Don't rush in trying to find the meaning in all of these but learn to move forward as quickly as you can. At the end of the day, we should just trust God's plan. I am. This definitely will not be the end, rather the beginning of bigger dreams. Having been a news reporter and witnessing pretty terrible things, Steve admitted he didn't think the COVID-19 pandemic would hit him this hard.

"It's a difficult time to be a source of inspiration but believe there will always be a BRIGHT NEW DAY. This is just a step back, not a setback," he promised.

Steve will rest his golden wings for a bit as he charts a new destination for himself, but he promised this isn't the end of his pilot dreams.

"This definitely will not be the end, rather the beginning of bigger dreams. I am certain, we will continue our quest to reaching the skies to be with our stars! For now, I only have to say, FLY WITH YOU SOON."

The COVID-19 pandemic has certainly given a big blow to the economy. Apart from closures, companies have announced retrenchments because of the pandemic and the ensuing lockdowns.

In July, Cebu Pacific announced it will lay off 800 employees, while Philippine Airlines was forced to lay off 300 employees and restructure its business as early as February. — LA, GMA News
