Family distributes food packs to Manila's homeless after receiving donation from Pinoy in US
The family who started a chicken wings business amid the pandemic has shared their blessings thanks to donations from a Filipino based in the United States.
According to Katrina Son's report on "24 Oras," Andrew Rosales was touched by the story of the Quetulio family which aired in the news program last week.
The family lost their livelihood amid the community quarantine, so they decided to sell chicken wings to earn some income to support their sick and elderly members.
"I was just moved because my first reaction was I wanted to help," Andrew said. "They lost their jobs and they are professionals so they deserve help."
He sent the family $100 or around P5,000, which was enough to buy all of their chicken wings with rice and bottle of water. The food packs were then distributed to jeepney drivers and homeless people in Manila.
"I just thought to hit two birds with one stone to maximize my help and the most essential way I help their business and I help the poor people and the jeepney drivers in particular," said Andrew, who is planning to do the same thing every week.
Delia Quetulio said her family was overjoyed to receive the donation and be able to help other people.
"Bukod sa aming pamilya ang natutulungan, may ishe-share pa namin sa ibang tao na may mga problema rin na ganito," she said.
Delia added that since they posted about Andrew's donation on social media, many people followed his example and offered to donate as well.
"Sunud-sunod na ang gustong tumulong at sunod-sunod na ang gustong mamahagi nung aming Angel Wingz," she said.
The homeless, meanwhile, could not be more grateful to have something to eat.
"Maraming-maraming salamat sa kanila. Kahit isang araw naparaos namin ang gutom namin," one of them said. —MGP, GMA News
