The American actress was announced to be the new lead of the CW series after Ruby Rose exited the show in a surprise move.
"I am extremely proud to be the first Black actress to play the iconic role of Batwoman on television, and as a bisexual woman, I am honored to join this groundbreaking show which has been such a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community," Leslie said in a statement.
On her social media, she shared the good news and said, "For all of the little black girls dreaming to be a superhero one day... it’s possible!"
According to Variety, she will portray a new character named Ryan Wilder, and that she is nothing like Kate Kane, who wore the Batsuit before her.
Leslie previously starred in the series "God Friended Me" and "The Family Business."
"Batwoman" is set to return for a second series in January.
