BTS, Big Hit donate $1 million to Crew Nation to help displaced concert workers

BTS and its management Big Hit Entertainment have donated $1 million to Crew Nation to help concert workers affected by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Citing a report from Variety, Soompi said BTS and Big Hit donated the amount to Crew Nation, a campaign started by US events promoter Live Nation to help displaced concert workers.

According to Soompi, BTS’s donation aims to help people who have played big roles in staging their live shows.

The announcement read: “This is one of the largest artist donations that has been raised for the Crew Nation fund since its conception.”

It also said that over 70 concert crew members who were supposed to work at scheduled BTS concerts planned for this year had received the funding.

“If it weren’t for COVID-19, we would have been happily touring across the world with many of our live concert crews by now,” BTS said.

“We are aware that a lot of communities need help due to COVID-19, and we wanted to support the music industry crews by making a donation. We hope to meet again on stage very soon,” they continued.

Additionally, it said 1,000 staffers may benefit from the fund as concert workers of all nationalities may apply to receive aid.

The report stated the said campaign, which was founded in March, started with an initial $5 million donation and promised another $5 million from artists, fans, and employees.

A one-time grant of $1,000 will be given to crew members who make 50 percent or more of their income from live performances.

Apart from the COVID-19 relief to displaced concert crew members, BTS and Big Hit also donated $1 million to the Black Lives Matter movement.

The amount was later matched then exceeded by BTS fans ARMY. – Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/RC, GMA News
