'Chernobyl' director Johan Renck to helm the pilot of 'The Last of Us' series adaptation
HBO has tapped "Chernobyl" director Johan Renck to direct the pilot episode of the upcoming TV adaptation of the popular game "The Last of Us."
According to Variety, Renck is confirmed to helm the first episode with "Chernobyl" writer Craig Mazin, who will co-write the series with the game's writer and executive director Neil Druckman.
Renck had won an Emmy award for Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special in 2019 for "Chernobyl," a mini-series about the Chernobyl nuclear disaster of 1986.
"The Last of Us" is a 2013 action-adventure Playstation game set in post-apocalyptic America. The story features Joel, a smuggler escorting teenage girl Ellie, and together they fight hostile cannibalistic creatures.
The series adaptation is set to be the first television show from PlayStation Productions.
