BTS Suga releases new solo mixtape ‘D-2’ as Agust D
Suga is unstoppable!
BTS member Suga, also known by his rapper name Agust D, has released “D-2,” the much-awaited follow-up to his first solo mixtape.
Tackling growth and changes, “D-2” features 10 tracks, including collaborations with fellow BTS member RM, Korean artists Niihwa and Kim Jong-wan of rock band Nell, and American singer-songwriter Max.
The album release also includes a music video for the lead single “Daechwita,” which features Suga in a fusion of traditional Korean and modern-day settings.
In an interview with Time Magazine ahead of the release of the album, Suga shared that as a musician, he was not too fixated on producing a certain sound or limiting himself to specific genres.
“What’s good is good,” he said. “I just do what I want to do,” said the idol, who has composed, written, and produced music for BTS and other artists.
The BTS member topped Twitter trends worldwide beginning Friday morning when eagle-eyed fans, collectively known as Armys, noticed that Apple Music updated Agust D’s artist profile picture.
The new photo looked similar to the teasers being dropped daily by Big Hit Entertainment, BTS’s agency, since the beginning of the week.
As Agust D, Suga released his first mixtape in 2016, to much critical and commercial success. Also called “Agust D,” the mixtape was produced by Agust D and its lead single was titled ... well, “Agust D.” His first solo project dealt with the themes of mental health and fame, as well as his thoughts on music.
Just two weeks ago, on May 6, Korean singer IU released her latest single “Eight,” which was produced by and featured Suga. The song has topped iTunes charts in more than 50 countries and achieved a “perfect all-kill” in Korean music rankings.
Suga also collaborated with US singer Halsey with “Suga’s Interlude” on her latest album “Manic,” which was released Dec. 6, 2019. The two artists previously worked on BTS’s mega-hit “Boy With Luv.”
As for BTS, after releasing their best-selling “Map of the Soul: 7,” the members are back at work on a new album. In a series of livestreams, BTS had began delegating roles among themselves and giving updates on the project, the first one to be entirely self-produced by the members.
The group may have postponed their worldwide “Map of the Soul Tour” due to Covid-19, but the pandemic has not stopped them from connecting with their fans.
BTS will perform at an online live concert to celebrate their 7th anniversary. “Bang Bang Con The Live” will stream on June 14, 6 p.m. KST on Weverse app.
Before that, the group is set to address this year’s graduates via Youtube’s “Dear Class of 2020,” with former US President Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, and Taylor Swift, among other notable personalities and artists, June 6, 3 p.m. ET (June 7, 3 a.m. in the Philippines). – GMA News
