Baguio City distributes seeds so citizens can grow their own 'survival garden' amid community quarantine
The Baguio City Veterinary Office-Agricultural Services Division has distributed vegetable seeds to different barangays so residents can start growing their own "survival garden" in their own homes.
Since Luzon was placed under enhanced community quarantine, many people rushed to the supermarkets in a fit of panic buying to stock up on food and other supplies.
The government assured that the country has enough food supply, but the office said having some plants in the backyard could help families in these trying times.
"In 1-2 months time, you can harvest nutritious leafy vegetables for your family," said the office in a Facebook post.
They also sent out personnel to check up on the garden sites to ensure that the seeds will be planted.
Under the community quarantine, strict measures have been implemented to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Public transportation has been suspended and local governments enforced curfews and quarantine passes.
As of Friday afternoon, the country has 803 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 54 deaths. --Kaela Malig/MGP, GMA News
