'In the Heights' film release postponed amid COVID-19 scare

The film adaptation of musical "In the Heights" has been indefinitely postponed amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

"Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, who composed the original "In the Heights" musical, and co-produced the film adaptation, made the announcement on Twitter.

"...We're going to have to wait a little bit longer. With the uncertainty in our world, right now, the release of 'In the Heights' is being postponed," he wrote.

Miranda shared that they had the best summer of their lives filming the movie last year and couldn't wait to share it with the rest of the world.

"When we can safely gather again, flags in hand, we will be there, enjoying this movie in theaters," Miranda added. "We'll have the premiere uptown. The best summer of our lives together."

Directed by Jon Chu, the film was originally set to premiere in the U.S. this coming June.

As of March 26, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported 416,686 confirmed cases of COVID-19, and 18,580 deaths in 197 countries, areas, or territories.

It declared the COVID-19 a pandemic on March 12.
