Netflix is making a live action series of popular manga 'One Piece'

Netflix is turning "One Piece," one of the most popular manga and anime series of all time, into a live action series.

The streaming company announced that the 10-episode series is in the works. It has partnered with Tomorrow Studios and Shueisha to bring the pirate adventure story to life.

Eiichiro Oda, the author of the manga series, is one of the show's executive producers, along with Tomorrow Studios' Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." executive story editor Matt Owens joins the team as a writer, while "Lost" co-executive producer Steven Maeda takes the reins as the series' showrunner.

"One Piece" was serialized as a manga in 1997 and is still ongoing, making it one of the longest-running manga series in existence. It spawned an anime with the same name in 1999.
