Holographic idol Hatsune Miku to perform in Coachella

Japanese virtual star Hatsune Miku is set to perform in this year's much anticipated Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Los Angeles, California.

According to the music festival's lineup posted on Facebook, Friday, the holographic performer will be performing on both April 10 and 17.

Miku isn't a real person. When performing "live", Miku appeareas on a video screen as a hologram with the persona of a 16-year old anime with turquoise pigtails.

Released by audio-media company Crypton Future Media in 2007, Miku is a  vocaloid or a singing voice synthesizer that can sing songs based on text commands.

Modeled after the voice of anime actress Saki Fujita, Miku's unique music has risen to the top, not only securing a slot in the festival, but has also sold out arenas in Japan for more than a decade already.

Included in the lineup of this year's Coachella are Calvin Harris, Big Bang, Rex Orange County and Lewis Capaldi.
