6 cool things you may not know about 'Unang Hirit'

GMA-7's "Unang Hirit" has been bringing good vibes and breaking news to television viewers nationwide since 1999.

As it celebrates its 20th year, here are a few fun things you never knew about the country's longest-running morning show.

1. Of the present barkada, three are pioneer hosts !

Of the several iconic news and TV personalities who appear on Unang Hirit, three O.G. hosts have been getting up early in the morning since day one.

These are Arnold “Igan” Clavio, Suzi Entrata-Abrera, and Lhar Santiago, who are now some of the biggest names in the industry.

Igan is hosting several radio and television news programs, as well as his own late night show, "Tonight with Arnold Clavio."

Lhar, on the other hand, is a seasoned showbiz reporter-slash-columnist, and Suzi is the well-loved host of the lifestyle talk show "Mars" for the longest time.

2. Suzi had an 'accident' courtesy of Igan

Much like the show, it was non-stop kulitan with the Unang Hirit barkada at a press conference on Friday where Suzi recalled a very funny incident she had with Igan.

"Ang daming memorable moments! 'Yung natulak mo ko sa stage noon, ganern," she told her co-host.

"Kasi sa sobrang saya, natulak ko si Suzi, nawala siya sa screen," Igan explained, adding he sent her some flowers the day after.

3. What happened to Arn-Arn?

During the presscon, Igan revealed the reason why we haven't seen his puppet Arn-Arn in a while. "Wala na po siya, kumabilang bahay na po."

Of course he was kidding. In fact, Igan even hinted that Arn-Arn might be returning soon.

"Abangan ninyo ang pagbabalik ni Arn-Arn."

4. Suzi's banana supply

Veteran reporter Susan Enriquez, who's known for her warm and simple TV persona, is also quite motherly when it comes to her Unang Hirit co-hosts.

Fun fact: Suzy often has her Ate Su to thank when she gets hungry on set.

"Through the years, siya rin ang supplier ko ng saging sa umaga. Pag wala si ate Su, gutom ako...naka-asa po ang almusal ko kay Ate Su."

5. #Juanchoyce supporters

Juancho Trivino and Joyce Pring, who were among the youngest and latest to join UH, are a couple in real life. The entire barkada howled in excitement when Juancho was asked what the show has changed in him the most.

"When I started Unang Hirit, I wasn't a host. Takot akong magsalita in public, in front of  a lot of people and... now my career blossomed," Juancho shared.

"Maliban doon, syempre naman, I found Joyce here...I'm very happy."

6. What you see is what you get

Lastly, the Unang Hirit barkada is able to start the day with good vibes and hilarious banters for a reason.

"Nag-evolve kami into a more cohesive, closer group, and we cannot stress this enough: Ito 'yung samahang hindi pilit -- What you see is what you get,"  Ivan Mayrina explained.

He added: "What you see on-cam is what you see off-cam. Pag nakita niyo kami sa isang coffee shop, ganito pa rin kami naguusap-usap." — LA, GMA News
