This year's HABI Market Fair will have a 'Craft Corner' where you can learn Filipino arts and crafts
The 9th edition of Likhang HABI Market Fair promises to be an "immersive experience" as they continue to advocate for giving local weaving communities more avenues to promote their skills and crafts.
Apart from a wealth of fabrics and textiles all across the country, this year's three-day fair will feature the "HABI Craft Corner" where visitors can learn and immerse in different kinds of Filipino arts and crafts.
Among the craft skills highlighted is of course, weaving including modern weaving, macrame sessions and writing and understanding Baybayin, the pre-colonial ancient writing script of the Philippines.
HABI Chair Maribel Ongpin said in the 9th edition of the fair learning is endless and it's also where Filipinos can interact with traditional weavers from all over the country.
“This year, we encourage Likhang HABI fairgoers to immerse themselves in the beautiful weaving communities and traditional textiles of our country,” says HABI Chair Maribel Ongpin. “We will have participating weavers from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao so the opportunity to learn at the fair is endless.”
Fifty-two merchants will gather and collaborate at the 9th Likhang HABI Fair showcasing sustainable and ethical fashion and they will also feature the use of traditional and contemporary textile.
Among the textiles that will be featured at the fair include habol negrense from Negros Occidental, yakan from Basilan, inaul from Maguindanao, binudbudan from Ifugao, binakol and abel from Ilocos and tepina from Palawan.
Filipino fabrics will also be featured at the event including bin al kay cotton ikaat, La Hermainia cotton abaca. The fair also aims to bring back the use of pure Philippine cotton. — LA, GMA News
The Likhang HABI Fair will happen from October 11 to 13 at Glorietta Activity Center.
