Hilary Duff set to return as Lizzie McGuire in upcoming Disney+ series
American actress Hilary Duff is set to reprise her iconic role as Lizzie McGuire in a new sequel series set to premiere in Disney's streaming service.
The upcoming show was announced during the D23 Expo 2019 and will be produced by Terri Minsky, the creator of the original show.
According to Hilary, the new series will reintroduce the beloved and all too relatable character, and this time, she'll be all grown up — much like the fans who have watched her years before.
In her Instagram, the actress said that Lizzie will be in her 30's in the show.
"The good news is, just like me and everybody who loved Lizzie and grew up with her, Lizzie’s also grown up. She’s older, she’s wiser—and she has a much bigger shoe budget, which is super exciting," Hilary said during the expo.
Although Lizzie will have an almost perfect life — working as an apprentice to a New York City decorator, having her dream guy, living in her dream apartment in Brooklyn — Hilary said she'll be dealing with that "13-year-old no-holds-barred animated Lizzie that’s constantly babbling in her adult Lizzie head."
The original "Lizzie McGuire" series launched on Disney Channel back in 2001 and ran until 2004. Played by Hilary, Lizzie was a 13-year old girl struggling to get by amongst all the adolescence drama.
The series also spawned a film entitled "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" which became a blockbuster worldwide.
