All-Pinay gaming team finishes 3rd place in a competition in Singapore
Bren Esports Victress, an all-female premier competitive gaming team from the Philippines placed third in the Mobile Legends category of the first-ever Female Esports League (FSL) in Singapore last June 9, 2019.
Bren Victress is made up of six Filipina members: Lou dela Serna (team captain), Mitch Liwanag (manager), Madiee Motebon, Ivvi Josue, Aizu Dualin, and Rhea Navarro.
The competitive esports team decided to create an all-female team after Lou, Mitch, and Persian met and formed a team in a tournament. They
held try-outs and screened their applicants based on win rates and a minimum experience of 3,000 matches, eventually finding the potential of the other three Victress members.
The women of Bren Victress found it empowering to represent female gamers, especially in the elite division.
“Ang sarap ng feeling [maglaro ng Mobile Legends] ‘pag may dinudurog kang lalaki,” Madiee said.
Team captain Lou added, “Kaya rin ng mga girls…pwede rin kami dito sa pro [esports] scene.”
Bren Victress had only been playing together as a team for one month when they competed at the FSL — unlike the other teams they played against, who had already been together for one or two years.
After suffering two losses at the grand finals — against the SFI Queens of Indonesia in the upper bracket finals and against Team Grumpy of Singapore and Malaysia in the lower bracket finals — the Philippine team finished third.
