Sunshine Cruz diagnosed with autoimmune disease

Sunshine Cruz diagnosed with autoimmune disease

A few days after walking at the Bench Body of Work fashion show, Sunshine Cruz revealed that she has been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease.

On Instagram, the 47-year-old actress said she is suffering from myasthenia gravis (MG), which affects the voluntary muscles such as limbs, eyes, mouth, and throat.

According to John Hopkins Medicine, MG is characterized by antibodies attacking the communication between the nerves and the muscles. Symptoms include muscle weakness, fatigue, drooping eyelids, and trouble with swallowing or speaking.

"It's been a real roller coaster these past months. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called myasthenia gravis which has made building muscle a real struggle," Sunshine said.

"But I'm so thankful for the strength I've found," she added. "Walking for Bench was a powerful reminder of what's possible even when things are tough. To all my fellow moms and Gen Xers, never give up on your dreams."

Sunshine is one of several Gen X ladies who walked at the Bench Body of Work fashion show, along with Ina Raymundo and Priscilla Meirelles.

Her eldest daughter, Angelina, also strutted down the runway in the show held at Mall of Asia Arena on March 21. —MGP, GMA Integrated News
