Howie Severino brought to hospital on Christmas Day

Howie Severino spent Christmas Day in a hospital in Laguna after he had his back pain examined.

On Instagram, the award-winning Kapuso journalist shared a photo of him in a hospital bed holding a book.

“On Christmas Day, after the festive hubbub of the previous night, I found myself in the ER, trying to find out if my back pain was the symptom of something serious,” he recounted.

According to Howie, his X-ray results showed “no fracture,” with the doctor thinking it’s a muscle strain from the heavy lifting he did in their garden days ago.

Upon the doctor’s assessment, he remembered loading a Toog tree seedling in their car, which he said is “heavier than it looked,” and that he probably didn’t carry it safely.

“I should have known better. Toog is known as one of the tallest native trees in the Philippines. Even a young one wanted to leave an impression," he said.

He also shared a lesson he learned from this experience: "Don’t overestimate my strength, and don’t underestimate a toog (or Philippine rosewood, scientific name: Petersianthus quadrialatus)."

Meanwhile, netizens and fellow media personalities wished Howie for a fast recovery in the comment section.

Howie currently hosts the GMA Public Affairs’s documentary program “I-Witness,” and “The Howie Severino Podcast.”

This December, he bagged the Most Outstanding Male Documentarist award at the 7th Gawad Lasallianeta for "I-Witness."
