Richard Reynoso shares about being diagnosed with thyroid cancer before the pandemic
Richard Reynoso opened up about being diagnosed with thyroid cancer in the latest episode of Mikee Quintos' show, "Lutong Bahay."
Mikee and Kuya Dudut visited Richard's home, where they cooked caldereta and tofu sisig with the OPM icon's wife Amor.
While sampling the dishes they cooked, Mikee noticed a scar on Richard's neck and asked him about it.
The Prince of Ballad shared that he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer before the COVID-19 pandemic and that the scar on his neck is from a thyroidectomy.
According to the Mayo Clinic, thyroid cancer occurs when there is growth of cells in the thyroid, a gland that is found at the front of the neck. In thyroidectomy, a part or the entire thyroid gland is removed surgically.
Upon being diagnosed with thyroid cancer, Richard said that he went live to inform his fans and loved ones about his condition.
"Nag-live ako and I informed everybody about my cancer. Sinabi ko gusto ko bago ako pumasok sa operation table, gusto ko makakanta lang ako ng isang kanta na kahit papaano pwede kong balik-balikan," he shared, adding that the only song that came into his mind was an original gospel song, titled "You Never Left Me."
Acknowledging that his talent in singing came from the Lord, he said that it was all right if he had to lose his voice from cancer.
"Binigay niya sa 'kin 'to, so kung kukunin niya, Lord okay lang, okay lang, iyo na 'yan. Okay lang, Lord, walang samaan ng loob. I enjoyed it, if you want it, if you want me to give it back, yours. Walang question."
Asked by Mikee if it was his faith that gave him this kind of peace, he answered, "I guess so and a lot of people also prayed for me."
Richard is known for the songs "Paminsan-minsan," "Hindi Ko Kaya," "Kahit Sino," and more.
He is a member of The OPM Hitmen alongside Rannie Raymundo, Chad Borja, and Renz Verano.
He is also a former co-host of GMA Network's Sunday noontime variety show, "GMA Supershow."
