Group of Filipino gamers sets up jogging club to promote active lifestyle

A group of Filipino gamers set up a jogging club to promote running and exercise among their community.

According to Nico Waje's report on "24 Oras Weekend," Sunday, Gamers' Run Club founded by content creator and gamer Bianca Yao aims to encourage gamers and influencers to live a healthier and more active lifestyle.

Bianca, who spends eight hours playing on the computer, said that sometimes she finds it hard standing up from her gaming chair.

"May kaunting activity lang ako na gagawin hingal na ako," she said.

According to endocrinologist Dr. Nemencio Nicodemus Jr., this sedentary lifestyle is unhealthy.

"Sitting is the new smoking. Kapag mas matagal na nakaupo o hindi kumikilos ang buong katawan, mataas ang tsansa na magkaroon ng sakit sa puso at diabetes," he said.

Nicodemus also encouraged the public to take a break from sitting by standing up, or jogging in place.

"Five minutes lang every 30 mins, tayo ka, lakad ka, as simple as that o kaya kahit jogging in place," he said.

Pro-DOTA player Carlo "Kuku" Palad admitted that he joined the jogging club because he is aware that his habits are not good for him.

"'Yung lifestyle ko hindi ganon ka-healthy kaya ta-try ko sumali sa ganito," he said.

Meanwhile, content creator Jon Paolo Son knows the benefits of becoming more active after losing over 10 kilograms of weight due to running and working out.

"This community helped a lot to kumbaga ma-push pa further 'yung fitness journey ko," he said.
