67 individuals in Eastern Samar receive wheelchairs through GMA Kapuso Foundation

A total of 67 beneficiaries from 12 municipalities in Eastern Samar, Eastern Visayas, received new wheelchairs through GMA Kapuso Foundation amid National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week.

According to "24 Oras," Monday, among the beneficiaries is Edgar Amparo, who had been using an old and rusty wheelchair to move around.

Edgar has not been able to walk ever since a bullet hit his spinal column during an accidental shooting. To make ends meet, Edgar repairs broken umbrellas for a living, earning P30 for every umbrella repaired. To give his body relief, he uses a makeshift cushion for his back made from foam wrapped in a sack and a rubber tire.

GMA Kapuso Foundation distributed the new wheelchairs to the municipalities of Quinapondan, Guiuan, Mercedes, Lawaan, Balangkayan, Sulat, Borongan, San Julian, Dolores, Jipapad, Oras, and Arteche.

Five-year-old Stacey, whose ability to walk had been affected after having surgery for hydrocephalus, also received a wheelchair through the foundation.

"Nakakapagprovide tayo ng mobility at independence doon sa mga PWD," said Brenda Aurora Basada, department head of the Provincial Social Welfare Development Office in Easter Samar, of the initiative. "Marami talaga 'yung nangangailangan at marami 'yung natutulungan."

To support more of GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Go here for more information.
