Couple with hearing, speech impairment receives medical checkup through GMA Kapuso Foundation
A married couple in Tayabas, Quezon, with hearing and speech disabilities underwent a medical checkup with the help of the GMA Kapuso Foundation.
The initiative came ahead of National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week, which is observed every third week of July.
According to "24 Oras," Monday, Martonel Concepcion and his wife Andrea both have hearing and speech impairments. Martonel works as a garbage collector to provide for his wife and two young children.
"Ang pangarap ko para sa mga anak ko, makakain sila, lumaki silang masaya at mabili kahit anong gusto nila. Lumaki silang may kaya," Martonel signed.
Their eldest child, who is without disability, learned sign language with the help of Martonel so he could better understand and communicate with his parents.
Recently, GMA Kapuso Foundation brought Martonel and Andrea to the Mobile Health and Medical Emergency Response Team in Tayabas so they can undergo a medical checkup for free.
Per Dr. Maria Graciela De Leon of Mobile Health ERT, Martonel has tonsillopharyngitis, while Andrea suffers from back pain. The couple were given antibiotics, vitamins, and pain reliever for their ailments.
GMA Kapuso Foundation also distributed grocery packs to the family.
