Woman with alopecia brought to dermatologist by GMA Kapuso Foundation

A woman with alopecia, a medical condition that causes hair loss, was brought to a dermatologist for consultation by GMA Kapuso Foundation.

According to "24 Oras," Friday, Sarah Arroyo was only seven years old when she first started losing hair on her scalp and eyebrows due to her condition.

It was first in 2009 when the mother of Sarah asked for assistance from the foundation for her daughter. At the time, Sarah received treatment for her alopecia, which saw her hair grow again. Six years later, however, Sarah's alopecia recurred.

She said in the report that she has been trying to hide her condition by just wearing a wig she bought for P100, which she glues to her scalp using shoe glue.

Now a mother of two kids, Sarah was recently brought by the foundation to dermatologist Dr. Grace Beltran for a medical consultation.

"Ito 'yung tinatawag na alopecia areata universalis, auto-immune hair problem 'to. Ibig sabihin your own body is producing toxic chemicals in order for it to destroy the hair follicle," Dr. Beltran said. "Nakakadagdag as trigger 'yung stress pero basically ito kasi built-in na sa katawan niya."

Sarah also received grocery packs from the foundation, as well as a wig donated by Hair for Hope by Heads Volu-Med Manila.

Sarah still needs to undergo treatment for her alopecia. To support her and more of GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Go here for more information.
