Meryll Soriano grateful for Joem Bascon's understanding as she battles bipolar disorder
Meryll Soriano and Joem Bascon just made their first “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” appearance together.
On Thursday’s episode, the couple talked about their relationship and how they rekindled their love for each other the second time around.
“Sa lahat ng mga tao sa buhay ko, si Joem ‘yung isa sa mga pinaka nakakaintindi sa akin and most especially sa bipolar ko,” Meryll said.
[Of everybody in my life, Joem is a few who understands me and my bipolar disorder.]In fact, she thinks Joem understands her better than she understands herself.
“That’s really something na I want to be aware of also, so I really engage sa sinasabi ko na ‘Okay, eto ako.’ All cards on the table. And then ito ‘yung mga gusto kong baguhin sa sarili ko. I know during our time before, wala ako masyadong pakialam. Nagbago na din ako,” she said.
[That's really something that I want to be aware of also, so I really engage, I told him 'this is me.' All cards on the table. This is what I want to change in myself. I know during our time before, I didn't really care. But I changed.]Meryll talked about her mental condition, saying she constantly attends doctor appointments and takes her prescribed medication.
“I’ve been diagnosed since I think 17 years na,” she said.
“You really have to take care by really knowing the condition and it took me a long time, Tito Boy. I think parang I was at peace and talagang ‘yung acceptance ko doon sa condition ko, nasa 30s na ako,” Meryll said.
Meryll first talked about her bipolar condition in 2015.
Bipolar disorder is a mental illness that affects one’s moods, causing unusually severe and low shifts in their energy. It also affects one’s sleep, thinking, and behavior, according to Webmd.
Meanwhile, Meryll and Joem first became a couple in 2008, and they split one year later. They were rumored to have rekindled their relationship in 2019, and in January 2021, Meryll revealed they have a newborn child after posting a family photo, confirming that she and Joem are back together.
In August last year, Meryll greeted him through a series of Instagram posts and called him, "my forever partner."
