Too much sun exposure causing you nausea? Here's what you can do

Too much heat from sun exposure can lead to nausea, and this is especially true for those suffering from high blood pressure or hypertension and those with heart problems.

In the latest “Pinoy MD” episode, Dr. Ma. Via Juille Roderos-Galban, a general physician, said feeling nauseous from sun exposure is something that you should be wary of.

“Kailangan natin ng extra ingat especially when it comes to the summer season kasi being exposed sa maiinit na lugar can actually cause an increase to our blood pressure,” Dr. Galban said.

If at any time you feel nauseous when you’re outside, the physician advises you to go to a shady or cool place to regulate your body temperature.

Dr. Galban also said extra hydration is essential.

“Ang pag inom ng tubig is essential especially kapag nasa lugar tayo na mainit,” she said.

The physician also gave a rundown of high blood pressure symptoms, which include headache, nausea, and intense heartbeat.

In the same episode, Dr. Galban debunked the myth that you should not shower right after excessive sweating from sun exposure.

“Minsan kasi kapag natuyuan tayo ng pawis, malagkit ‘yung pakiramdam and it can actually worsen ‘yung pakiramdam natin, so okay lang kung maligo tayo after magpawis,” she said.

It’s also advisable to wear white or light outfits when you’re out and about, as well as to choose loose and summer-friendly materials for clothing.

For April and May, the Philippines is expected to have a dangerous heat index of up to 46 degrees Celsius.

In case you're getting confused, PAGASA clarified that heat index is the measure of the temperature that a person feels, which is computed considering air temperature and humidity.

Dangerous heat indexes can cause heat stroke, heat exhaustion, or heat cramps.
