Man with paranoid schizophrenia receives medical help thanks to GMA Kapuso Foundation

A 29-year-old man with paranoid schizophrenia finally received medical help after being locked up inside a room for five years.

According to a report on "24 Oras," Wednesday, his parents first noticed that "Jun" was frequently absent-minded and would often talk to himself.

In 2014, he was examined and diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.

"Nagwawala siya talaga. Hindi makatulog, nagdadabog," his mother said, adding that Jun once hurt someone and ran away.

In 2018, even though it hurt his father, he decided to lock up his son in a room.

"Tinatali ko diyan sa may rehas. Ako na ang nagpapaligo sa kaniya, dun na mismo," he said.

A concerned individual helped the family seek help from GMA Kapuso Foundation, which immediately took Jun to see a psychiatrist in Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center.

"Itong sakit sa pag-iisip na 'yung may sakit nito, hindi nila nasasabi kung ano ang reyalidad. Unang-una, namamana 'yan. Second, meron tayong sinasabi na inbalance sa mga chemical natin sa utak na tumataas siya, kaya nagkakaroon 'yung mga hallucinations. Then huli, mga life experiences na hindi na-overcome," Dr. Stephanie Ayungo said.

She also said that it doesn't help a patient when they are locked up.

"Kasi itong sakit na ito, wala talaga siyang treatment. Meron lang siyang gamot para mabawasan 'yung mga sintomas niya pero kailangan dun, maintenance talaga," she said, reminding that when the same symptoms are observed in someone, they must be immediately taken to a specialist.

Jun has been admitted to a hospital to monitor his condition and be given proper medication.

For those who are interested to help, the GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Shopee, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
