YEAR IN REVIEW: 7 beauty trends that got the seal of approval from TikTok beauty gurus

In the ever-changing field of beauty, the year 2023 continued to introduce new trends that showcased how diverse beauty trends are, empowering beauty junkies to further embrace and use the techniques and products they feel most themselves in.

As the year comes to an end, we talked to some TikTok beauty content creators and asked them what their favorite beauty trends were this year.

Lou Sanchez: Colored eyeliners

From starting her online career on YouTube seven years ago and now continuously making short-form videos on TikTok, Lou Sanchez has seen it all. But this year, the beauty trend that stood out the most for her were colored eyeliners.

Lou said that switching from a regular black eyeliner to a colored one is an easy step to change your look without having to do many steps.

Jen De Leon: Laminated brows and glossy lips

For our favorite “ses” Jen De Leon, laminated brows and glossy lips top her list this year.

Brow lamination is usually achieved by incorporating a brow gel or brow glue into your daily makeup routine to shape, flatten, and set the brows. They may be semi-permanently done at salons.

Meanwhile, glossy lips noticeably regained its popularity after the era of matte lips. From lip oils, lip glosses, and lipsticks with heavy shimmers, beauty fans have been opting for the glossy lip look to achieve plump, healthy lips.

Mae Layug: Customizable palettes

Beauty vlogger turned GRWM Cosmetics CEO Mae Layug gave emphasis on how much she loved customizable beauty palettes this year.

For her brand, she launched a quad palette, which allows users to choose from a variety of blush, highlighter, bronzer, and contour inserts that come in many shades and finishes.

Ruzzel Melendez: The growing popularity of using sunscreen

Going into the skincare aspect of beauty, Ruzzel Melendez, more popularly known as Skincare by Ruzz, expressed his delight that more people are learning the benefits of using sunscreen.

Ruzzel advised that we must always incorporate sunscreen into our morning skincare regimens, especially since it helps prevent premature skin aging.

Andrea Hiz: Aegyo-sal eye makeup

Andrea Hiz said she has been loving the aegyo-sal eye makeup look inspired by Korean beauty trends.

This makeup technique is often used to create a youthful appearance by emphasizing the puffiness of the eyes that appear whenever we smile. An aegyo-sal makeup is usually achieved using light-colored eyeshadows, shimmers, and brown eyeliner strategically placed beneath the eyes, making them appear larger.

Bella Gonzales: “Clean girl” makeup look

Makeup is indeed personal. For Bella Gonzales, the “clean girl” makeup trend is something that suits her style a lot, making it her favorite trend this year.

While the definition of “clean girl” makeup varies, for Bella, it is a makeup look that allows her skin to still show through, embracing a natural, skin-like look.

Vic Perez: Over-blushing

Meanwhile, for Vic Perez, the over-blushing trend perfectly captured her love for blushes.

Aside from giving the cheeks a good pop of color, this heavy-blushing technique is also used to lift and sculpt the face, depending on how it is placed on the face alongside the contouring and bronzing products. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
