Real talk: How long do lash extensions last?
Let's face it: Getting eyelash extensions is a luxury for some of us. It's expensive, so as much as possible, we want to get our money's worth in terms of how long they'll serve us.
Since lash extensions are semi-permanent and need retouching, their longevity is based on the wearer's growth cycle of natural lashes and how well you take care of them.
To give you an idea, I tried to give NEW Lounge's PH Exclusive Volume lash set a wear test.
The PH Exclusive Volume lash is unlike any other extensions. It's like having long natural lashes worn and darkened with mascara. It's a combination of long and short lashes: the short ones subtly fill the base, while the longer accent lashes add depth and drama while maintaining a very natural look.
Week 1
On the week of the application, expect an effortless made-up look because of fuller lashes. If you have any big events, we recommend getting your lash extensions a day or two before the affair because it's when the lash extensions are in full effect.
The first week is crucial since you must be careful when washing your face or applying makeup, as any contact with your lashes can cause them to fall out.
During this week, several fallouts from the extensions are expected and normal. You don't have to worry, though, as it won't affect the overall look of your lashes anyway.
Week 2
On the second of wearing extensions, you'll experience some of the lashes going in different directions, so combing them using a spoolie wand regularly is essential. For first-timers, you can request a free spoolie wand at your lash salon of choice.
It's also on Week 2 that some extensions are already starting to fall off, but since NEW Lounge's PH Exclusive Volume lash set comes in long and short lashes, they still give a wispy and fuller effect.
Week 3
Personally, my natural lashes grow pretty fast, so in the third week, the extensions are beginning to go further from my lash roots.
This is the best time to schedule a retouch to replace the fallouts. But for those not so keen on spending money for a touch-up, the best way to do is to keep combing the extensions with a spoolie wand so they will blend well with your natural lashes.
Week 4
On fourth week 4, the lash extensions are fewer to non-existent already. Again, this is a case-to-case basis as we all differ in terms of the growth cycle of our natural lashes.
For this week, you can wait for all the extensions to naturally fall off or opt to remove the remaining ones at the same salon you went to for their application at an additional cost.
After freeing your natural lashes from extensions, it's advisable to let them breathe for a while before scheduling a new appointment. Lash extensions can cause damage to your natural lashes, so it's best to give them time to rest, recover, and regrow.
The NEW Lounge's PH Exclusive Volume lash set is priced at P6,500, while its retouch is at P3,500. This Filipino-owned beauty and wellness brand recently opened its first international branch on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California.
