Kathleen Hermosa loses triplets due to early miscarriage
Kathleen Hermosa revealed she was pregnant with triplets, but had lost them due to an early miscarriage.
In a YouTube vlog, the actress said that she suffered a blighted ovum or an anembryonic pregnancy — a type of pregnancy that leads to an early miscarriage, according to Mayo Clinic.
With an anembryonic pregnancy, an embryo—the egg fertilized by sperm—either never forms or stops forming and is reabsorbed by the body. Its reason is often unknown, but may also be due to “problems with chromosomes—the structures that contain genes—in the fertilized egg.”
Kathleen detailed her journey in her vlog, saying she and husband, banker Miko Santos, were excited to learn about the pregnancy in September. They then told their friends and families, including Kathleen’s sister Kristine Hermosa and her husband Oyo Sotto.
The doctors originally told the couple they were having twins, but they later learned they would be having triplets.
In the vlog, Kathleen also revealed her growing baby bump.
But after a checkup, a crying Kathleen said, “The three sacks of our babies ay walang laman and I don’t wanna give you this sad story energy because naniniwala ako and I want to be excited for God’s plans.”
She added, “There’s nothing to blame.”
The 41-year-old actress said they were heartbroken. “We’re all so excited for our triplets. [One] is already a blessing, two is more than enough, and three, naniniwala ako is a miracle kasi wala naman sa ‘ming triplets or twins, ganyan sa genes.”
Kathleen added that she questioned her faith and what happened. She added that she had already adjusted her schedule, bedrest, and eating habits for the pregnancy.
“I’m not giving up ‘cause ang mundo ko ay puno ng miracles, so di talaga naniniwala na di kaya ni God gawin. Lahat kaya niyang gawin,” Kathleen said.
“Ito yung hiningi ko eh, ito yung pinagdasal ko, ito yung pinangarap ko, and then all of a sudden, wala. It’s gone,” she said.
“But then again, I had to compose myself and pray to rest in Him, to rest in God.”
Kristine, Oyo, their kids, and more of the couple’s family also made sure to comfort Kathleen and Miko with food, visits, and love letters.
Kathleen added in the video’s description, “I learned that we are only humans, we make mistakes.
“We question God sometimes. And that’s normal for as long as we try sooo hard to make our hearts right with God. That we make sure we surrender to His plans. Because God never [makes] failed plans. [It’s] always ALWAYS the best plans.”
Kathleen also believes that she will get pregnant again. She wrote on Instagram, “He did it to us. He will do it again.”
“GOD WILL MAKE US PREGNANT AGAIN! With healthy both myself and triplets again! And He is no doubt capable of making it happen to you too!”
She added, “No time to waste sulking, fretting and in sorrow. Let's not allow ourselves to go spiral down that way. We/ I choose to be in a space full of hope and excitement!”
Kathleen and Miko got married in June in Cebu, Miko’s home province. Kristine served as the maid of honor, Danica Sotto and Ara Mina as bridesmaids, and Tali Sotto as the flower girl.
