Doctor advises public on illnesses to watch out for during Amihan season

Amihan season is here! According to a report by Vonne Aquino on 24 Oras this Sunday, tourists are flocking to Tagaytay to enjoy the cold weather and breathtaking views.

One of the city's most visited attractions is the People’s Park in the Sky, a place that tourists still frequent despite the challenging climb.

Visitors don’t hesitate to ascend the park to enjoy the unparalleled view of Taal Volcano, even when it's partially obscured by a sea of clouds.

“Nung hinangin nga ‘yung fog tapos nag-clear, napakaganda talaga,” said Edward Vere, one of the tourists who visited the park.

And what better way to complement the view and cold weather than with a steaming bowl of bulalo, for which Tagaytay is well-known?

“Super sarap po, perfect sya sa cold weather dito sa Tagaytay,” said Christine Patricio.

Restaurant owner Benjamin Cruzate also mentioned that tourists have been flocking to the city, especially on weekends.

The cold weather is also noticeable in Metro Manila. While many love the cool breeze, the Amihan season also brings with it common illnesses that we need to be cautious about, making it essential to boost our immune system.

Dr. Jubert Benedicto, a specialist in pulmonary critical care, offers valuable advice to the public regarding the increased risk of illness during this season.

“Pwedeng magkaroon ng sipon, pangangati ng lalamunan, or ‘yung pesteng ehem na tinatawag. Pag bumaba pa sa daanan ng hangin dahil nga masyadong dry sya, nati-trigger ang ibang sakit tulad ng paglala ng hika o, paglala ng COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease).”

[You can have colds, an itchy throat, or what we call "ehem." When it goes down the airway because it is too dry, it triggers other diseases such as worsening of asthma or worsening of COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease).]

At the first sign of sickness, everyone is advised to consult with a doctor. It’s also important to stay hydrated and eat nutritious foods. Those with asthma must also take their maintenance medicines.
